Day 41

Today had a late morning as I slept till pretty late. Was pretty tired so had a longer sleep. And since I'm left with TWO MORE DAYS in China, I must sleep more on the bed!! haha!

Anyway, headed to Guang Gu's pizza hut for lunch as we all had a craving for it. Took separate cabs to Guang Gu as we couldn't find a 面包车.

WE WANT OUR FOOD!!!

Jacob, Sheng Kiat and I went back after food as there's a technician scheduled to come to our apartment at around 2pm to fix our sockets. Yesterday our sockets fused out I think and many of our appliances are unable to be used. SUPER SIAN. that's why I had to drag posting my blog. but now most of them are fixed. They took around 2hours to fix man. and I think they are efficient enough already! due to the fact that the wires are inside the wall, they had to locate where is fused and fix it! SUPER POWER!! =) and oh! Jacob was sleeping throughout this fixing session and got caught in action! =P





haha! quite entertaining right?? =P

anyway, didn't do much except to head out to have wanton as dinner near the school area. Had dinner with Mr. Tan this time and I felt that it was a great time of bonding. Got to know more about Mr. Tan and hear his point of views about things in life. And surprisingly, Mr. Tan actually have quite a good mind (in terms of thinking about things).. Hope that can chat with him even after the trip. =)

Day 40

A day where there's nothing much. Basically stayed inside apartment for almost half of the day before heading out. Took some time to watch 我和僵尸有个约会 which we bought not long ago. Interesting show with funny effects. haha!

Later at night, Jacob/Sheng Kiat/I went out to Guang gu to meet one of the stall keepers for dinner. It was a sad thing that the Lady Boss could not join us as her husband and son were at that area too. So only Tan Fei 谭飞 and the new assistant Shu Ping came to meet us. We took some time to wait for them as they had to close the stall and we took some pictures out of boredom.





After meeting up with Tan Fei and Shu Ping, we headed off to KFC to have our dinner. Had a nice time chatting with them and knowing more about them. I was impressed by Tan Fei's knowledge about Singapore and also about IT related stuff. He is really knowledgeable. Shu Ping is a University student who worked part-time at the stall. Had some time to know her and also know more about China's holiday. haha! I know like ALOT of things about China's holidays and I was kind of envious. BUT, Singapore is still the best!! haha!

after dinner, three of us went to this shop called the Diary Queen to have a little dessert. It is a shop that sells ice-cream/smoothie/sundae. I pretty like the taste and that I think Singapore should have something like that. =)








REFLECTION OF DAY 40, FRIDAY, 3rd OCTOBER 2008:

Time: 11:00pm

From today’s encounter with another local, I really think that people in China are open to new people in their own country. After being introduced to this lady, I took the initiative to ask her some questions to know her better. Instead of being shy, she was pretty open in her answer. I felt that this has made knowing her much easier as both of us were open to knowing each other better.

From the chat with the local, I’ve found out a lot more things about China’s holiday. For students, their semester break is about 2months long (which is almost the same as us, just a little longer) and their New year holiday is ONE MONTH LONG! WOW! For working adults, their New year holidays would range between 3 to 5days. The interesting thing about this is that the holiday period for students and working adults are very different and have a huge difference. Too bad the local could not explain why it was so.

Another thing I asked was about their one week long National Day holiday. The local’s point of view is that as it was very difficult for people to build up China, the long holiday is to reward the people in remembrance of the history of China. I felt that it was a good way as this would remind people about how difficult and all the labour that were being put in to build up China to its present state.

Overall, there are lots about China which I haven’t known and understand yet I’m grateful to be able to know more and more locals. This will help broaden my social circle and also increase my knowledge.
